Michelle Dawson

After completing a Graphic Design degree I trained as a teacher and taught art in a large secondary school for six years. I now divide my time between making and exhibiting my work, teaching art classes and doing workshops in schools.
I love making quick sketches when I'm out and about - of landscapes, seascapes, townscapes and people. I then use these sketches to develop illustrations. I add colour and texture using a combination of collage, mixed media and digital manipulation.

I have recently completed illustrations for an ABC book and a Numbers book for young children. This summer I collaborated with the poet Natalie Smit-Ash on an illustrated poetry book for children. The poems and the illustrations are all inspired by the seaside. Our booklet 'Once Upon a Seaside Time' is available for £3 plus 50p postage by emailing dawson_michell@yahoo.com.
